The Ocean Literate Society - Youth Engagement and Intergenerational Collaboration

Vid FN:s 2:a havskonferens denna gång i Lissabon 2022 arrangerade Marint Kunskapscenter tillsammans med Center för hav och samhälle vid Göteborgs universitet, EarthEcho International, High Seas Alliance, Global Youth Biodiversity Network och Miljöinstitutet i Sverige ett sidoevenemang med temat:
The Ocean Literate Society - Youth Engagement and Intergenerational Collaboration
Unga människor runt om i världen leder initiativ för att ta itu med storskaliga utmaningar på egen hand, med uppenbara positiva effekter. Få människor har missat den kommunikativa kraften och genomslaget från internationella rörelser som Fridays For Future, initierade och drivna av barn och ungdomar. I alla delar av världen tar unga människor ledningen i att kräva förändring från makthavarna samtidigt som de använder sina röster och verktyg för att agera för en bättre värld och ett friskare hav.
Den generation som kommer att påverkas mest av de beslut och åtgärder som vidtas idag kommer under detta evenemang att inta scenen och representera sina egna och kommande generationers intressen. Syftet är att visa upp en mängd olika internationella ungdomsdrivna organisationer och initiativ, såväl som uppsökande projekt som drivs av akademi, icke-statliga organisationer och den privata sektorn, som alla syftar till kunskapsöverföring över generationer samtidigt som man bygger ett havskunnigt samhälle och bemyndigade ungdomar. Under den första delen av evenemanget (0-60 min) kommer det att finnas en blandning av korta presentationer och en kort uppföljningsdiskussion. Den senare delen av evenemanget (60-90 min) kommer att vara i form av en "minimässa" där besökarna får möjlighet att interagera med representanter från ungdomsorganisationer och projekt som arbetar med ungdomsengagemang och havskunnighet. Minimässan kommer att innehålla interaktiva inslag med möjlighet att göra konstverk, smaka på hållbara skaldjur, skapa nya kontakter och ta med souvenirer hem.

Fridays for Future is a global Youth movement protesting for action on the climate crisis and climate justice.
The High Seas Youth Ambassador Program brings together and unites youth activists, change-makers and leaders from across the world who want to help protect and conserve the high seas.
The Marine Education Center in Sweden communicates Ocean Literacy through experiences, welcoming school classes, the public and other groups throughout the year.
EarthEcho International is building a global youth movement to protect and restore our ocean planet.
Blue Food in schools - Build your own aquaponics. Experiential learning project with the main objective to investigate how we can feed the earth's population in a sustainable and inclusive way. Driven by Swemarc, the University of Gothenburg.
Klimatjuristerna, ”The Climate lawyers” is an organisation of Swedish law students that offer free legal advice to environmental organizations.
Ocean Blues - from anxiety to action, a communication project linking non-academic young adults to the scientific community. Driven by TheCentre for Sea and Society, the University of Gothenburg.
The Plastic Experiment - Citizen Science Project here pupils take part in science, collecting and mapping how much plastic rubbish there is in different types of nature in Sweden. Driven by The University of Gothenburg among others.
The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) is an international network of youth organizations and individuals from all over the world whose common goal is to prevent the loss of biodiversity.
Sailing4Science increases data and knowledge gathering, and achieve healthy and clean ocean awareness by empowering students and young scientists.
